2. A promotion package for a new film, to include a trailer, together with two of the following three options:
- a website homepage for the film;
- a film magazine front cover, featuring the fim;
- a poster for the film.
I have researched a variety of film trailers to help influence my own trailer. Here are a few examples:
Dreamer by Design (2011)
This trailer gives insight in to a typical 'Bridget Jones' style film. With two slightly annoying friends who provide help to the hero and give a comedy effect to the overall film; and a hopeless 'hero' character who is clueless in the face of love. I like the idea of the two friends who help the hero along and a helpless main character. Also creating a RomCom would be low in special effects.
Going Nowhere - AS Media Project
This is a RomCom style trailer made by an AS student, it has turned out well and shows what a student can do with limited resources and money.
To Rome With Love
This trailer represents a mulit-charactered story, linked together by one city, Rome. This keeps the audience interestedby giving them many storylines to follow, without there being too many to get confused. The trailer gives a clip of each of them to the audience.
Date Night
This is very different to the typical RomCom yet still fits in to that genre comfortably due to the main characters being husband and wife. This clip shows how a date night turned in to a disaster when the husband steals a couple's table, and how they go through the night.
Monsters University
This is a children's animation film, a prequel to Disney's earlier successful film; "Monsters Inc.". The clip hints at the university life of Mike and James (The two main monsters from "Monsters Inc.") Despite the success of animated films, it is too difficult to create with the resources available unless I did a stop-frame animation film like "Wallace and Gromit".
Despicable Me 2
Again an animated clip, Despicable Me 2 brings back the much loved characters from Despicable Me, and changes the villain in to a hero. Although the film itself is good I believe that creating a proffesional standard of animated film would be too dificult to create. However I like the idea of a villanous protagonist character becoming good.
Percy Jackson:Sea of Monsters
An adventure film, "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" shows the audience an exciting, mythological sequel to the first Percy Jackson film. This, however, would be way out of my reach in terms of the amount of special effects that would have to be used. However, it would be possible to create a trailer for an adventure film like this provided that I did not actually use any monsters in the trailer.
After watching these I have decided that whilst I will not be able to recreate the genre of most trailers due to a lack of special efects, I will be able to create a Horror or RomCom as these do not require many special effects to make it look effective.
